In this episode of MEP Engineered Online, Ehab Nabulsi, the head of the mechanical department at building and infrastructure engineering consultancy Dar Al Omran, speaks to MEP Middle East Editor Anup Oommen about MEP works on three hospital construction projects in Jordan; the MEP challenges faced; as well as special technologies and equipment used to complete the projects on time and within budget.

Located in Amman, Jordan, the three hospital construction projects include the Abdali Medical Centre; the Al-Kindi Hospital; and the new Emergency Hospital affiliated with Al Bashir Public Hospital.

"These projects are considered as landmark projects here in Amman," said Nabulsi, speaking from Jordan.

The Al-Kindi Hospital covers an area of approximately 35,000m2; and the new Emergency Hospital affiliated with Al Bashir Public Hospital covers approximately 20,000m2.

The 90,000m2 Abdali Medical Centre is a tower with 30 floors, which was initially designed and constructed as a residential building, but later converted to a healthcare facility -- which brought about its own MEP challenges.

Nabulsi said: "Our scope of work on these projects included the design of the MEP services. On the Al-Kindi Hospital and the new Emergency Hospital our scope was design, supervision, and handing over the project to the client; while on the Abdali Medical Centre, our scope was design-build.

"The design intent for the Abdali Medical Centre was prepared by AECOM, and we continued the design, development, and supported the contractor during the construction and to hand over the project."

The MEP for the hospital projects was designed with the aim of using the latest technologies to provide a healthy and safe environment, while maintaining sustainability as a key criterion in design and implementation.
