There are two women in Henry Hutton's life - Janet Spence, with the mysterious Gioconda-like smile, and little Doris Mead - but neither is his wife. She is a bed-ridden invalid. Her sudden death is a surprise to all, and her hard-bitten nurse is accused of carelessness.
