Shipping Container House Floating above a Ruin in Taiwan. Shipping containers can be a cheaper alternative when building a retirement home. In this video we bring to you modern House floating above the ruins of an old brick house built using 5 shipping containers for a retired couple in Central Taiwan. This amazing home on a hilly upcountry site belongs to retired Taiwanese couple who built a retirement home where they can live and farm vegetables. The site contains ruins of an old brick house which will be preserved to keep the memories of the land. The main structure of the house is built using five shipping containers. Three 40 foot shipping containers were placed side-by-side on the first floor and two more containers stacked on top. The containers are elevated on a steel frame floating above the ruins of the existing brick house.
