In this first drive review, I get behind the wheel of the Mazda6e 80kWh Takumi model right here in the UK at Gridserve Stevenage, well ahead of official right-hand-drive versions and UK pricing. This is the European-spec car, freshly shipped over so we could experience what Mazda’s next chapter in electrification really feels like. It takes up the EV cause in the wake of the MX-30 EV that suffered from poor range - the 6e starts with 300 miles of range!

The 6e isn’t just another electric car jumping on the zero-emission bandwagon — it’s a statement of intent. Built around Mazda’s famed Jinba Ittai philosophy – meaning “horse and rider as one” – it aims to preserve that unique sense of connection between car and driver that’s been at the heart of every great Mazda, from the MX-5 to the RX-7.

With rear-wheel drive, up to 345 miles of range, 320 Nm of torque, and elegant coupe-saloon styling inspired by Mazda’s Kodo – Soul of Motion design language, the 6e blends craftsmanship, emotion and engineering precision in a way few EVs even attempt.

This is Mazda’s bold step into the EV era — not a tech gadget on wheels, but a car that still puts you, the driver, at the centre of the experience.
