In South Korea, the demand for migrant workers is high, especially in rural areas, as most young Koreans avoid harsh and low-paid farm work, gradually emptying the countryside.

But as much as we need them, do we treat them like we do?

Hundreds of migrant workers from across Asia toil in harsh conditions, unprotected by labor laws.

Following the recent death of a Cambodian woman whose body was found in a vinyl greenhouse at a farm in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, the government announced that employers hiring seasonal migrant workers will now be banned from using vinyl greenhouses as living quarters for their employees.

But farm owners say these measures will put them out of business.
