Hydro Ban by Laticrete comes in 3 forms: a polyethylene sheet membrane (Hydro Ban Sheet Membrane), a 1/2" thick foam board (Hydro Ban Board), and a liquid applied membrane (Hydro Ban). Any three of these products alone are stated to be sufficient to waterproof a tiled shower and therefore offer a limited warranty.
In some of my product testing videos, you will see that when using sheet membrane, the thinset that adheres the sheets together at seams can wick moisture. Given enough time, it can cause a leak under the membrane. By incorporating the liquid Hydro Ban on top of the sheet membrane, my testing has shown that it stops any water migration from happening under the membrane.
